Overview

The lack of adequate management and business management skills in South Africa is one of the contributors to the high failure rate in the small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMME) arena. This diploma in business management course will provide a very important and essential skill set to support national efforts to equip prospective business managers and entrepreneurs to produce better economic results.
The business course focuses on the financial, economic, and business management aspects of commerce, but includes important business-related modules to ensure a balanced perspective of modern corporate business to inform the environment within which the graduates must operate and to ensure a well-rounded qualification

This is a three-year full-time qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) at IIE Rosebank College. Face-to-face lectures take place during the day on weekdays at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Polokwane,  Bloemfontein and Pretoria CBD.

Requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements

English  
NSC: Diploma with 30%
NC(V): Diploma pass with 40%
SC: Endorsement -none with 33.3%
SC(a): Diploma pass A minimum of 30% in LOLT in NSC/ SC(a) OR with a min. of 33.3% in SC.
International A SAQA Evaluation Certificate with NSC L4 equivalence with at least 40% or equivalent for English.
Alternatively, a cognate Higher Certificate (or equivalent) or Advanced Certificate may satisfy the minimum admission requirements to diploma studies. If discipline not cognate, at least 20% of credits must be academic literacy or numeracy related.

 

Senate Discretionary Admissions

Mature Age Exemption - 23 years and older

Candidates must have attempted the Senior Certificate or equivalent, attained the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years’ work experience and proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communication skills.   ​

Mature Age Exemption - 45 years and older

Candidates must have attained the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Where candidates do not satisfy the formal admission requirements for this qualification, The IIE may consider an admission application in terms of the Credit Accumulation and Transfer, Recognition of Prior Learning and Qualification Completion Policy (IIE010).

If applicant does not meet minimum admission requirements and there is no alternative (such as completion of NQP modules) but they have relevant experience, the following must be requested to consider admission via RPL:

1. Certificates for all formal (Accredited Higher Education qualifications) and/or informal qualifications/modules (SLP’s, Microcredentials etc). SAQA certificates must be provided for any international qualifications.

2. CV to determine whether the following are related to the qualification that the applicant is applying for:
a.    Formal (Accredited Higher Education qualifications) and/or informal qualifications/modules (SLP’s, Microcredentials etc)
b.    Relevant work experience

USAf approved cognate foundation programme

Candidates who have completed an USAf approved cognate foundation programme from a registered and accredited provider may be admitted.

Transfer students

Candidates who have successfully completed at least 120 credits on the first year of a cognate 3- year diploma may be admitted.  However, if a student completed less than 120 credits, the admission criteria on the NSC or equivalent or higher certificate or advanced certificate apply.

OQSF qualifications

Candidates with an OQSF Level 5 cognate qualification may be admitted, provided the OQSF qualification has at least 120 credits at NQF Level 5.

IEB International Secondary Certificate

Candidates must have achieved Diploma pass and meet the additional admission criteria (where applicable).
A SAQA Certificate of Evaluation with NQF L4 equivalence is required.

Important Information

  • To be awarded this qualification, a minimum final year mark of 50% for each module must be achieved.

Course Accreditation
