IIE Rosebank College: Cultivating the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship is a gateway to the world of industry where innovation meets opportunity and ultimately unlocking possibilities

With a focus on job creation and societal impact, IIE Rosebank College, Career Services department hosted a dynamic entrepreneurship event on September 17, 2025, bringing together 43 enthusiastic students and key stakeholders from prominent organizations, including the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Digify Africa an Non-Profit Organisation and Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA). The event provided a valuable platform for students to engage with industry experts, gain insights into the world of entrepreneurship, and explore opportunities for growth and development.

Nkileng Nyembe from NYDA share valuable insights stating “NYDA's programs aim to provide financial and non-financial support to emerging businesses, including grant funding and mentorship initiatives. Our Market Linkages Programme assists young entrepreneurs in accessing business opportunities, while the Grant Programme provides funding ranging from R1000 to R250000 for eligible start-ups.”

The event also emphasized the importance of building and maintaining a strong alumni network. By fostering connections with fellow entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and like-minded individuals, students can tap into valuable resources, mentorship, and support. During the event Thabang Mkhuma from MICT SETA alluded that as a skills development sector they aim to develop graduates in all fields and enhance employability, productivity in these socio-economic realities in our country. Ultimately, this network can serve as a catalyst for growth, innovation, and collaboration, ultimately contributing to the success of their ventures.

Amongst the students who were in attendance Simphiwe Dlamini expressed his gratitude for the valuable lesson he gains. “I’ve always been a business minded person and I’m thankful that I received insights on steps I should take to further build myself in the entrepreneurship spectrum, the event was a game changer for me,” he said. Through the event he learnt the significance of strategic networking.

IIE Rosebank College is the Independent Institute of Education and aim of hosting such events with Career Services Department being the primary initiates is to provide students with valuable insights and connections. By partnering with key stakeholders like NYDA, and MES SETA, IIE Rosebank College is demonstrating its commitment to fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation. As the event showcased, supporting young entrepreneurs requires a collaborative effort from various stakeholders, including government agencies, financial institutions, and educational institutions. By working together, we can create a thriving ecosystem that empowers young people to turn their business ideas into reality.
