The IIE Master of Strategic Information and Communication Technology Management is designed to advance and deepen students’ specialist knowledge of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), with a strong emphasis on strategic management. Graduates will develop advanced competencies to design and manage competitive ICT solutions and strategies within organisations. They will be equipped to conduct contextual strategic analyses, manage the development of secure ICT strategies, processes, and projects, and support the achievement of organisational strategic objectives. In addition, graduates will be able to strengthen ICT capability through the effective use of data and knowledge, design and lead governance and security frameworks, and strategically manage human capital to deliver on ICT strategic priorities.

The IIE graduates of this qualification will possess advanced specialist knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and will be able to analyse and manage contextual strategies across diverse organisational environments. They will be equipped to develop secure ICT processes and projects that meet organisational needs. The IIE’s distance (online) delivery mode provides you with the agility of studying towards a tertiary qualification asynchronously, at different times from different locations. Distance students need to commit to approximately 12 hours a week for distance engagement to succeed (this includes your lectures, research, reading of material, online learning and assessments).

Device and connectivity specifications required for online study:

Reliable internet connection (we recommend 5-10 GB of data per month and an internet speed of at least 0.15 Mbps)
Desktop PC or laptop with at least an i3 processor and 4GB RAM memory
Windows 11 or macOS 10.15 (Microsoft Office 365 is available as a free download for IIE students), and Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Chromium or Firefox
A working webcam and microphone
An uninterrupted power supply is also highly recommended

EXAMINATION CENTRE OPTIONS FOR ASSESSMENTS WRITTEN ON CAMPUS
•    From 2026, we are planning to offer you the ability to write your exam online, which will be invigilated. 
-    Your device needs to fulfil the minimum requirements as above with internet connectivity, a working webcam and audio recording ability, with battery life sufficient for the exam duration in case of power outage once the exam has started. 
-    Whilst Android devices and tablets can be used for your studies, they cannot be used for online exams. 
-    You are responsible for making contingency plans in case of planned power outages. 
-    You need to be alone in a quiet environment for writing your exams online. 
-    Selected assessments as indicated on your Programme Assessment Schedule (PAS) need to be written on an IIERC campus or an approved exam centre where appropriate.
WHERE ASSESSMENTS CANNOT BE WRITTEN ONLINE OR STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO AN APPROPRIATE DEVICE
•    For students based in South Africa, online students may select any campus of The IIE’s Rosebank College, as their Examination Centre. 
•    An alternative examination centre is only permissible for students studying abroad and those located in a province of South Africa where there is no IIE campus. If there is no IIE campus within reach, an alternative venue will need to be sourced by you. For non-IIE venues, there is an alternative venue levy per module.
