WHAT YOU CAN BECOME

Graduates of the IIE Higher Certificate in Travel can choose from a variety of jobs in the travel industry. Start off as a junior travel consultant in a travel agency, a passenger handling agent or airline check-in agent, or work as a reservation consultant.

This IIE qualification enhances your creative, problem solving and analytical skills and encourages strong communication and numeracy skills.

TIME NEEDED TO COMPLETE YOUR QUALIFICATION

Full-time: This is a one-year full-time qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE). Full-time lecturers take place during the day at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Cape Town, Pretoria CBD, Pietermaritzburg, Durban CBD, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth and Polokwane.

Part-time: This is also available over 18 months as a part-time qualification with lectures taking place at the following campuses Braamfontein, Pretoria CBD and Durban.

Online learning: This qualification can also be completed on the online/distance learning option.  The modules will be offered on IIE Learn where additional support is viable for students especially in the distance space. Distance modules are only offered in bundles, there are two bundles (semester 1 and semester 2). You can do a maximum of two bundles a year and you cannot register for individual modules. Speak to your sales consultant for more information on the bundles.  No application fee for IIE online/distance learning.

THE WEIGHT YOUR FUTURE QUALIFICATION CARRIES

This Higher Certificate is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 120-credit qualification on Level 5 (SAQA ID No: 105734). On successful completion you will receive a Higher Certificate in Travel qualification from The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), the leading registered private provider of higher education in South Africa.

Candidates with a GED qualification may be admitted if they have a SAQA Evaluation Certificate with NSC L4 equivalence as well as NBT: AQL results and have obtained a score of at least 37 for Academic Literacy (AL) and a score of at least 37 for Quantitative Literacy (QL).

​​Candidates must have attempted the  Senior Certificate or equivalent, attained the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years’ work experience and proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communication skills; OR Candidates must have attained the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.
