In order to be awarded this qualification, you must have achieved a minimum final year mark of fifty percent (50%) for each module of the programme, and have met all Work Integrated Learning requirements.​​ ​ In some, but limited instances some modules may change. At the time of registration, please check that the entry requirements and fees  have not changed.

Software to be used in your discipline include MS Excel, MS Project, MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Outlook, which come with Office 365 bundle. These can be accessed for free using the FTP file server with your rcconnect email account. In addition, the following can be accessed: Android Studio, Azure, Eclipse for Java EE, GIT, Microsoft Visual Studio, Oracle Database 11g, PHP, SQL Server, CentOs, Microsoft Visio, WAMPSERVE, and Web Expression 4

Software developme​nt qualifications such as the IIE Diploma in IT in Software Development offered at Rosebank College is designed for creative thinkers who enjoy problem solving. This IIE qualification provides a combination of fundamental business related skills enabling the student to function effectively in the IT programming environment.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

​​​WHAT YOU CAN BECOME​

When you graduate you can work as a junior software developer, computer systems analyst or web developer.

​​​SKILLS YOU WILL DEVELOP​

The skills developed during the duration of this IIE qualification include programming, web development, systems analysis and database design. Students will learn different programming languages and get a good understanding of a computer’s logic, architecture and design. These skills will enable the students to enter into an environment of application and solution development, thereby creating a wealth of opportunities within the Information Technology (IT) world.

TIME NEEDED TO COMPLETE YOUR QUALIFICATION

Full-time: This is a three-year full-time qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) at Rosebank College. Lectures take place during the day on weekdays. Qualification offered at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Pretoria Sunnyside, Cape Town and Durban.

This Diploma is accredited by the Council of Higher Education (CHE). It is also registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) on Level 6 (SAQA ID No: 74651). On successful completion you will receive a Diploma in Information Technology in Software Development from The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), the leading registered private provider of higher education in South Africa.

InternationalA SAQA Evaluation Certificate with NSC L4 equivalence with 30% or equivalent in English. ​

Alternatively, a Higher Certificate (or equivalent) or Advanced Certificate in a cognate field may satisfy the minimum admission requirements to diploma studies.

 

If discipline not cognate at least 20% of credits must be academic literacy or numeracy related

 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)Candidates must demonstrate suitability for admission in terms of Senate's resolution 6.6 of 20 October 2005 which allows for Senate's discretionary conditional admission (if applicable).
USAf approved cognate foundation programme Candidates who have completed an USAf approved cognate foundation programme from a registered and accredited provider may be admitted.
Transfer studentsCandidates who have successfully completed at least 120 credits on the first year of a cognate 3- year diploma may be admitted.  However, if a student completed less than 120 credits, the admission criteria on the NSC or equivalent or higher certificate or advanced certificate apply.
OQSF qualificationsCandidates with an OQSF Level 5 cognate qualification may be admitted, provided the OQSF qualification has at least 120 credits at NQF Level 5.
General Education Development (GED) - An USA qualification developed by the American Council on Education (ACE)Candidates with a GED qualification may be admitted if they have a SAQA Evaluation certificate with NSC L4 equivalence as well as A score of at least 38 for Academic Literacy (AL) and a score of at least 38 for Quantitative Literacy (QL).

  • Candidates must have attempted the Senior Certificate, attained the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years' work experience and proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communication skills; OR
  • Candidates must have attained the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.
