The IIE Diploma in Business Accounting is designed to produce graduates who are competent in both the theory and practice of accounting in all organisations. This IIE qualification aims to satisfy the growing demand for offering in-depth study in the accounting field. Research has demonstrated a demand for theoretical and practical training in accounting practice to manage financial tasks and functions competently within small enterprises, or at a relatively junior level in larger ones.

WHAT YOU CAN BECOME

IIE graduates of this qualification can be employed in various finance positions within a variety of organisations. Possible jobs of this IIE qualification include management accountant, financial analyst, financial controller and accounting officer.

SKILLS YOU WILL DEVELOP

This IIE Diploma in Business Accounting equips students with core business principles and management skills to be able to work in and manage the books of a small to medium size enterprise. Students with sound numeracy skills that enjoy working with numbers that would like to pursue a career in finance specifically cost and management accounting, will benefit from this IIE qualification.

TIME NEEDED TO COMPLETE YOUR QUALIFICATION

Full-time: This is a three-year full-time qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE). Fulltime lectures take place during the day on weekdays at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Cape Town, Pretoria CBD, Pretoria Sunnyside, Durban,

Senate Discretionary AdmissionsMature Age ExemptionCandidates must have attempted the Senior Certificate or equivalent, attained the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years' work experience and proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communication skills; OR Candidates must have attained the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)Candidates must demonstrate suitability for admission in terms of Senate's resolution 6.6 of 20 October 2005 which allows for Senate's discretionary conditional admission (if applicable).
USAf approved cognate foundation programmeCandidates who have completed an USAf approved cognate foundation programme from a registered and accredited provider may be admitted.
Transfer studentsCandidates who have successfully completed at least 120 credits on the first year of a cognate 3- year diploma may be admitted.  However, if a student completed less than 120 credits, the admission criteria on the NSC or equivalent or higher certificate or advanced certificate apply.
OQSF qualificationsCandidates with an OQSF Level 5 cognate qualification may be admitted, provided the OQSF qualification has at least 120 credits at NQF Level 5.
General Education Development (GED) - An USA qualification developed by the American Council on Education (ACE)Candidates with a GED qualification may be admitted if they have a SAQA Evaluation certificate with NSC L4 equivalence as well as  A score of at least 38 for Academic Literacy (AL) and a score of at least 38 for Quantitative  Literacy (QL).


Candidates must have attempted the Senior Certificate or equivalent, attained the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years’ work experience and proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communication skills; OR Candidates must have attained the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.

  • you have an equivalent qualification to the aforementioned;
  • your equivalent qualification is evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA);
  • you have a valid study permit issued in the name of The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) that covers the duration of your studies.
