From a classroom at IIE Rosebank College to the bright lights of digital media. She established a Chic-Tribe Digital Magazine, a platform that shines a light on African women, young professionals, and changemakers—voices too often ignored.
In a world where digital media often focuses on quick trends and shallow stories, Sarah Banda, an IIE Rosebank College alumna, decided to dream bigger. She created Chic-Tribe Digital Magazine, a platform that shines a light on African women, young professionals, and changemakers, voices too often ignored. Her journey from a student of numbers to a leader in media is a story of courage, hard work, and a heart full of purpose.
Sarah founded Chic-Tribe to fill a void missing in the industry. Upon recognising a gap in the mainstream media coverage of African women, innovators and the likes, she aimed to establish a space that showcases their experience. With each narrative she shines the light to underrepresented communities, giving power to those who need to be heard.
The path was not always easy. Building trust and keeping readers interested in a fast-changing digital world took effort. Finding money and partners for Chic-Tribe was tough at first. But she didn’t give up. She kept creating fresh ideas, meeting new people, and working with others to make her magazine stronger. By staying open to change and new trends, she found her way forward.
Some moments stand out like stars in her story. Covering big events and launching the Empower Her Series, a project that lifts women’s voices and pushes for equality. “Seeing our work change communities means everything,” she says. Being named a finalist for mediapreneur of the Year at the She Big4 Awards was a testament of how far she’s come. It’s proof that her passion is making a difference.
To anyone dreaming of creating or leading, she offers simple, powerful words: “Be yourself, share your own story. Connect with people, learn what’s new, and keep growing. The media world is hard, but if you love it and keep going, you’ll find your place.” Her advice is a reminder that with heart and effort, anything is possible.
From a classroom at IIE Rosebank College to the bright lights of digital media, this woman’s journey shows what happens when you believe in something bigger than yourself. Sarah is not just sharing stories; she’s lighting a path for others. And her work promises that the best is still ahead.
