Who is The IIE?

Rosebank College is a brand of The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) which is one of the leading private higher education institutions in the country registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training.  The IIE has more accredited higher education qualifications than any other – currently over 90.  We are a wholly owned subsidiary of AdvTech Ltd, a public company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (Pty) LTD.

The IIE has several systems and processes which are driven centrally by our Central Academic Team which is responsible for the academic governance and quality assurance of all programmes delivered through the campuses of all its educational brands, including Rosebank College.

British Accreditation Council

The IIE is not only accredited in South Africa but its dedication to providing quality education also led to it being accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC), an internationally recognised quality assurance agency. The British Accreditation Council is an independent authority in the United Kingdom that accredits private providers globally, including Greece, Switzerland, Singapore, India, Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates.

“The IIE is the only South African private higher education provider which carries the BAC accreditation at this time, and we are very proud of reaching this significant milestone. Not just for ourselves, but for the sector as a whole. Within the challenging context of higher education in our country, it is important that private higher education providers are able to confidently and competently offer options to potential students above and beyond those provided by the public universities,” said Dr Coughlan.

Rosebank College students can now be assured that their IIE learning experience meets international best practice standards. To find out more visit, http://www.the-bac.org

What sets IIE education apart?

We focus on building careers – we recognize that your qualification is the first step in a lifelong journey of learning and we therefore focus on curricula that are current and relevant (and we ensure this through our strong partnerships with industry and other higher education institutions) and on you gaining important skills and competencies that will promote your success during your period of study and beyond.  For these reasons you will be given opportunities to apply your learning to real world scenarios and you will be given opportunities to develop your capacity as a global citizen.

We have several systems in place to ensure that we live up to these promises – from regular graduate tracking; to the involvement of academics and professionals in our regular programme review to the standards set for programmes such as the Career Centres offer and the social awareness campaigns offered on campus.

What does the Central Academic Team (CAT) do?

Working with the lecturers and the teams on campus the CAT Team is responsible for the development of the curriculum, overseeing the delivery of that curriculum in the lecture rooms and through meticulous attention to the quality and security of assessment and certification the team ensures that your qualification is of the highest possible standard.

Senate and its committees

In line with the way this is done internationally in Higher Education, The IIE has a Senate which oversees the quality and governance of all that we do and sets policies for everything from assessment to the way that the libraries offer you services. The Senate is made up of academics and others from all the brands and the Central Academic Team so the best skills and resources are pooled to ensure leading policies are applied to your study.

Other committees (on which Rosebank College is always directly represented) focus on Teaching and Learning or on Exam Results or on Brand Results or on Research. The Registrar ensures that The IIE – including Rosebank College – is compliant with all policies and regulations (internal and external) and senior managers at the Central Academic Team such as the Academic Manager and Heads of Faculty work with the brands to ensure high quality education every day.

Quality assurance

The continual monitoring and improving of quality is of great importance to The IIE. For this reason we have several quality assurance processes which include evidence driven reviews of our programmes, lecturer peer reviews, student success tracking and intervention programmes for students needing assistance. In addition we participate in the external reviews of bodies such as the BAC and HEQC.
