The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) offers a variety of quality, accredited IT qualifications for you to choose from. The IIE Higher Certificate in IT in Support Services will equip the student with the skills to provide technical assistance and computer related support in the business environment. Subjects focus on end-user computing, helpdesk support, basic web development as well as business practice and communication. This qualification will offer a technical background in the discipline of network and applications.


Upon completion of this qualification, you can work as a Support or Network Technician or Web Developer.


Skills that will be developed include planning, organizing managing and controlling and self-motivation. Self-motivation, effective listening skims and stress management.


Full-time: This is a one year full-time qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) at Rosebank College. Full-time lectures take place during the day on weekdays. Programme offered at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Cape Town, Pretoria Sunnyside, Port Elizabeth, Polokwane, Pietermaritzburg, Bloemfontein and Durban CBD.

Part-time: This is an 18 month part-time qualification, please consult our student advisor for full qualification fees. There will be a future fee as this is an 18 month qualification and the fees displayed on the website are annual fees and not the full qualification. Qualification offered part-time at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Pretoria CBD and Durban CBD.


This higher certificate is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE). It is also registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) at Level 5 (SAQA ID NO: 81866). On successful completion you will receive a Higher Certificate in Information Technology in Support Services from The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), the leading registered private provider of higher education in South Africa.

 To register, you must meet one of the following entry requirements:

  • NSC ( National Senior Certificate )  with Higher Certificate admission- A minimum of 30 % for English is required; OR
  • NC(V) (National Certificate (Vocational) ) with  Higher Certificate admission – A minimum of 40 % in English on either First Additional Language or Home Language level, with a minimum of 40% in Life Orientation and a minimum of 50% in four vocational subjects; OR
  • A SC (without endorsement) or equivalent– A minimum of 5 subjects must be passed.

Additional admission requirements apply to students with a School of Tomorrow (SOT) certificate. Please contact the Head of Department at the campus closest to you for more information.

Senate Discretionary Admissions

School of Tomorrow (SOT) (last date of achievement 30 June 2019)

Candidates who have successfully completed an SOT qualification may be admitted,provided that they have submitted their SOT Certificate and Academic Transcript as well as their NBT: AQL results and have achieved:

a) 40% in 3 subjects, one of which is an official language at Home Language level
AND 30 % in 3 subjects of which one must be for English - using the SOT Conversion
Table; and
b) A score of at least 37 for Academic Literacy (AL) and a score of at least 37 for
Quantitative Literacy (QL)


Mature Age Exemption:

  • Candidates must have attempted matric/Grade 12, attained the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years' work experience and proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communicative skills; OR
  • Candidates must have attained the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.
RPL – demonstrate suitability for admission in terms of Senate's resolution 6.6 of 20 October 2005 which allows for Senate's discretionary conditional admission (if applicable).


If you are an international student, you must ensure that:

  • you have an equivalent qualification to the aforementioned;
  • your equivalent qualification is e valuated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA);
  • you have a valid study visa issued in the name of The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) that covers the duration of your studies.  ​

In order to be awarded this qualification, you must have achieved a minimum final year mark of fifty percent (50%) for each module of the programme, and have met all Work Integrated Learning requirements.    In some, but limited instances some modules may change. At the time of registration, please check that the entry requirements have not changed.
