This qualification is an entry level qualification which is vocational and industry orientated. It encapsulates introductory knowledge in the areas of general business administration within an office environment and will prepare the successful graduate for a position in the general business environment. If you would like an office job, or are looking for a career in office administration then this qualification is for you.


The purpose of this qualification is to equip students with foundational knowledge and skills to either be employed in a small business or a large corporation. This qualification provides a broad introductory understanding of the establishment and management of a business.


As a student of this IIE qualification you will develop your administration and management support skills. Your communication skills and other related vocational skills.


Full-time: This is a one year full-time qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) at Rosebank College. Full-time lectures take place during the day on weekdays. Qualification offered at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Cape Town, Pretoria CBD and Durban CBD.


This Higher Certificate is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE). It is also registered with the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) on Level 5 ( SAQA ID NO: 73371). You will receive a Higher Certificate in Office Administration from The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), the leading registered private provider of higher education in South Africa.


Use this Higher Certificate as a stepping stone to furthering your academic career. Once you qualify you will have the wonderful opportunity of studying The IIE Bachelor of Business Administration Degree through Rosebank College.


In order to be awarded this qualification, you must have achieved a minimum final year mark of
fifty percent (50%) for each module of the programme, and have met all Work Integrated Learning

 To register, you must meet one of the following entry requirements:

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Higher Certificate admission- A minimum of 30 % for English is required; OR

• A National Certificate (Vocational) NC(V) with Higher Certificate admission – A minimum of 40 % in English on either First Additional Language or Home Language level,  with a minimum of 30 % in either Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy, a minimum of 40% in Life Orientation and a minimum of 50% in four vocational subjects; OR

• A Senior Certificate (SC)  (without endorsement) or equivalent– A minimum of five of the six required subjects must be passed.

School of Tomorrow (SOT) (last date of achievement 30 June 2019)

Candidates who have successfully completed an SOT qualification may be admitted, provided
that they have submitted their SOT Certificate and Academic Transcript as well as their NBT:
AQL results and have achieved:
a) 40% in 3 subjects, one of which is an official language at Home Language level AND 30 %
in 3 subjects of which one must be for English - using the SOT Conversion Table; and
b) A score of at least 37 for Academic Literacy (AL) and a score of at least 37 for Quantitative
Literacy (QL)

Mature Age Exemption:

• Candidates must have attempted the  Senior Certificate, attained the age of 23 before or during the first year of registration with three years’ work experience and proven ability relating to the proposed programme as well as adequate communication skills; OR
• Candidates must have attained the age of 45 before or during the first year of registration.

RPL – demonstrate suitability for admission in terms of Senate’s resolution 6.6 of 20 October 2005 which allows for Senate’s discretionary conditional admission (if applicable).


If you are an international student, you must ensure that:

  • you have an equivalent qualification to the aforementioned;
  • your equivalent qualification is e valuated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA);
  • you have a valid study visa issued in the name of The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) that covers the duration of your studies.  ​
