Wondering what exactly is a #RCGirlBoss or how you can become one? Wonder no more. We offer practical advice on how to wear your #RCGirlBoss sash proudly no matter your age or the occasion.
Self-love and appreciation is the first step to becoming a #RCGirlBoss. Humans desire love, attention and acceptance from others, but even more important is you doing this for yourself. The sooner you begin to realise that you are amazing just the way you are, the sooner you can move onto becoming the best version of yourself. Self-love is complete acceptance and respect for the person you truly are – good and bad included. Loving yourself means taking care of yourself and respecting your dreams enough to follow them. When you love yourself your happiness and health are all very important to you because you realise that without loving yourself, you will never be able to truly love others.
Set clear goals
Do you know where you want to be in five years' time? Do you know what you plan to do after you graduate, or better yet what are your goals for today? If you want to be successful you need to have clear goals. Without these you lack focus and direction. Goal setting allows you to take control of your life and where you end up. Set goals that motivate you. Write down why it's valuable and important to you. SMART goals are the most powerful. SMART stands for
- Time bound
Take charge of your life
If you are not satisfied with your life currently and are envious of your friends who seem to be living their best lives then it's probably time for you to take charge of your life. Explore your potential to the fullest. Time flies sooner than you can believe, and when you don't take charge of your life, nothing changes, nothing improves and you will find yourself still where you don't want to be. Instead things may just get worse. Nothing changes in your life until you decide to take charge and write the story of your life that you can be proud of. Get rid of the blocks holding you back and create the changes you want to see.
Look good to feel good
How you look is often a reflection of how you feel in the inside. Putting on a new outfit or getting your hair done can make us feel good and therefore leaves us feeling good. This in turn helps us to act more confidently. Make an effort to look good every day and you send a message to the world that you like you. Whether you recognise it consciously or not, looking good sets you up for success. You don't need to spend a lot of money to achieve this. It could be as simple as taking a shower, doing your hair and putting on your favourite dress instead of going out in the clothes that you slept in.
Mean what you say, and say what you mean
Many people never learn how to appropriately say what they mean, and mean what they say. Most cultures value "niceness" over honesty in many cases. People who confront issues head on are sometimes perceived negatively and this often affects just how truthful we are about our feelings. It takes practice and diligence but the results are worth it. Always be objective and stick to facts in your approach. Acknowledge your own thoughts and feelings truthfully and remember you are not responsible for how the other individual reacts. But be responsible in your delivery. Take some time to think about the other person's viewpoint, and remember that most people haven't learnt to be honest in a non-hurtful, productive way. Get this right and who knows, you may just pave the way.
Be considerate of all people
Everyone deserves respect, no matter who they are. Always be present and conscious in your relations with others. Know that kindness and consideration are qualities that speak for themselves, never raise your voice, just raise your standards. When we are considerate of others, it makes the person concerned feel loved and respected, it makes the world a better place to live in.
Support other girls
Stop the girl-on-girl violence. There is so much power in women supporting each other. If women were kind to each other we could truly change the world. Empowered women, empower other women. Keep your morals and head high and remember that without each other's support our destination to gender equality will take that much longer to reach.
